The Sappony Women on Mission group is part of the McDaniel Group of the Petersburg Baptist Association Women’s Missionary Union. As part of the WMU our group focuses on supporting missionaries and the spreading of the gospel around the world by emphasizing the importance of prayer, giving, going and learning about missions.

The WOM meets on the first Monday night of each month. The meetings focus on helping and learning about mission work throughout the world and at home. This time is used to support our missionaries with prayers by using the Missionary Prayer Calendar which provides the birthdays of those serving around the world. At the meetings, mission projects are planned for each month. The projects may involve assisting missionaries in foreign countries or local missions.

Our small group of dedicated women have raised funds for such projects as Pure Water Pure Love, which helps provide water filters for those in need of clean safe drinking water. On a monthly basis the WOM provides monetary support for a deaf child through the Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf and also contributes to the Cooperative Program. The WOM and the members of Sappony contribute thru the year to the Lottie Moon Christmas OfferingAnnie Armstrong Easter Offering and Alma Hunt Offering. These offerings go to the support of missions throughout the world. Throughout the year items such as toiletries, non perishable food items, blankets, shoes, toys, backpacks and school supplies are collected. The items are dispersed to other organizations that help those in need such as the homeless, veterans and families in financial distress.

Our group may not be large in number but that doesn’t mean that we can’t make a difference through fellowship, praying and serving together to help those in need at home and around the world. Missionaries, no matter where they are, need our prayers and support. They go into places where their lives may in danger simply because they follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and wish to help those in need.
